About Fatigue

’Fatigue' began as a response to the artist sustaining a serious ankle injury whilst competing as a dancer in South Korea in 2016. This project was a means to reconnect with the artists dance practice and generate a creative and deeply personal response to the injury. The sculptures in Fatigue explore the indefatigable representation of dancers and the tension between a human performer and the sculptural figure. Monumental sculptures, frozen in positions taken from Breaking vocabulary are positioned in space, generally on a lino flooring against a live performer, performing the same movement until they completely fatigue and leave the space. The audience is left with the referential sculptural shadow of the performer. The materials, being MDF or cardboard, are used to reference the make shift flooring used by Breakdancers in replacement of a sprung floor, lino or stage.
