Fabio Roncato

“Neither intervention, be it addition or subtraction of material, nor mere volumetric configuration: the sculpture for Fabio Roncato is first of all possibility. Get in relation with the matter. Identify the operational opportunities that it offers and makes possible. Evaluate the limits and proceed by admitting mistakes, adjustments and variations also determined by the case. His goal is to make the formative moment stand out in his work. A praxis and mutability that must in any case be recognizable in it. The material therefore becomes a concrete trace of the variability, of an operational dynamism often determined by the relationship with the context of production of the work and by the unpredictability of the different natural factors present in the environments in which it works. Contradict the static nature of the material while using it. This is his poetic figure.”*

* Davide Dal Sasso

“In the recent years I focused my research on the study of some materials trying above all to understand how to relate myself to them and how to recognize what they can offer by listening to them. The works that born from this research are developed through simple sculptural gestures, designed to put the material in a critical state, with itself or with the context in which it is exposed, my task at this point is to understand and support the material behavior. I always think of this way of working as a collaboration with the material that allows the sculpture to develop itself autonomously. The shapes obtained are halfway between perception and understanding, I believe it is precisely this position that allows the materials to offer a particular poetic and evocative potential - or, as Dal Sasso writes - to let emerge the organicity that characterizes my works In summary, I see my work as a perennial pursuit for the representation of a vision, which although it is always the same, occupies every time different spaces and shapes.”*
